There's a third option.

For founders compounding a business on their own terms. No raise, no exit.
August 22, 2026 · Written by Ahmad Khan

I spent the first half of my career on deals that helped people start companies and raise venture money. The second half was deals that helped people sell them, or settle for a lifestyle business. I never liked how either story ended.

So this newsletter is where I write about the third option. Founders building something ambitious, not by raising money and not by settling, but by compounding a real business on its own profits.

If you're running one of these, you already know the shape of it. Quietly profitable for years, maybe longer than a decade. Nobody outside your industry has heard of it, and it isn't for sale.

THE THIRD OPTION

Founders building something ambitious. Not by raising money and not by settling. By compounding a real business on its own profits.

Here's the pattern I keep seeing when I talk to people like you. The business outgrew you before anyone senior enough showed up to catch it. You're still the person every hard call routes through. The codebase is older than some of your customers. And AI is either something you're scared to touch, or something you haven't touched at all, because your whole reputation was built on customers who've never had a reason to leave.

None of that means something's wrong. It's just where a business like this eventually arrives, and almost nobody's writing about what to do once you're there.

That's the gap I want this to fill. There isn't nearly enough advice, or community, or real support built for founders in your position. I think that's a mistake, especially now. In an AI era, I actually think this path becomes the default way to build a lasting company, not the fallback. I want to help make that case, alongside people who are actually living it. If you want a couple of books that hold up for this kind of work, Traction and The E-Myth are the two I still hand people most.

If it sounds like a fit, I'd like to hear from you.

Alongside the newsletter, I run Generation Growth Partners, an AI-native holding company for founders who've built exactly this kind of business. Deep customer relationships, real domain expertise, products their customers genuinely can't operate without. We help with the less glamorous, structural stuff. Permanent capital, modern infrastructure, an operating team that can carry some of the weight, so decades of trust don't get lost the moment the business needs to evolve.

Most people reading this will never need any of that, and this newsletter has to earn your time either way. I'll be back in your inbox soon. If something here is useful, send it to someone else running a business like yours. That's really how this gets better.
